Google Ads management for veterinarians

Veterinary ads attract pet owners researching symptoms, looking for home remedies, or searching for species or services the practice doesn't handle. An audit checks whether spend reaches owners ready to book a visit.

Which searches waste money for veterinary practices?

Symptom research, DIY remedies, and species or services you don't treat are common leaks.

  • Symptom research searches: why is my dog limping, cat not eating what to do.
  • Home remedy searches: natural flea treatment for dogs, DIY pet first aid.
  • Species you don't treat, such as exotic or farm animals if you're a small-animal practice.
  • Free or low-cost clinic searches when you don't offer reduced-fee care.
  • Searches for emergency care outside your hours if you're not an emergency clinic.

Common tracking problems for veterinary practices

Most veterinary bookings happen by phone or an online scheduler, and both can be miscounted.

If appointments are booked through a separate practice-management portal, check whether the confirmation step reports back to Google Ads, or whether only a page view is being counted.

Calls are the other common gap. Counting a tap on the phone number isn't the same as counting a call that became a booked appointment — check which one your account is actually measuring.

What does a good cost per lead look like?

Judge cost per new patient against the typical first-year value of a pet owner to your practice, not a generic benchmark.

A routine wellness visit and an ongoing care relationship are worth very different amounts over time. Estimate typical first-year value per new client and compare it with what Google Ads is actually costing per booked new patient.

If tracking is unreliable, count new patients from your practice management software for the same period rather than relying on Google Ads' own conversion count.

What should a veterinary practice check first?

Confirm bookings are recorded accurately, then review the search terms report for species and symptom-research clicks.

  • Last recorded date for each conversion action
  • Top searches by cost with no recorded booking
  • Whether species you don't treat are excluded
  • Service-area targeting around the practice

Frequently asked questions

Why does Google Ads show conversions but the front desk sees no new patients?

The conversion counted may be a click or page view rather than a completed booking. Check exactly what each conversion action measures.

Should we bid on emergency pet searches?

Only if you can actually see emergency cases during the hours those ads run. Otherwise those clicks are often wasted.

Will Claritad change my veterinary ads?

Managed builds and runs your ads after you approve the plan, then optimizes within agreed limits. Budget increases require your OK. The free diagnostic does not change your ads.
