Google Ads management for salons

Salon ads often pay for people watching DIY styling tutorials, shopping for hair or beauty products, or searching for a job behind the chair rather than booking an appointment. An audit checks whether spend reaches people ready to book.

Which searches waste money for hair and beauty salons?

DIY tutorials, product shopping and career searches are the common leaks.

  • DIY tutorial searches: how to cut your own hair, at-home balayage technique.
  • Retail product searches: buy hair dye, best shampoo for color-treated hair.
  • Job and career searches: hairstylist jobs, how to become a licensed cosmetologist.
  • Services you don't offer, such as extensions or nail services if you're a hair-only salon.
  • Searches for a specific stylist at another salon.

Common tracking problems for hair and beauty salons

Most salon bookings happen through an online scheduler, and confirmations can be missed if the tool is hosted separately.

If your booking platform runs on another domain, check whether a completed booking — not just a visit to the booking page — fires the conversion in Google Ads.

Calls are the other common source of bookings. Counting a tap on the phone number isn't the same as counting a call that resulted in an appointment; check which one your account measures.

What does a good cost per lead look like?

Judge cost per booked appointment against the value of repeat visits, not just the first booking.

A client who returns regularly is worth far more than a single visit. Estimate typical client value over a year and compare it with cost per new booked appointment.

If tracking is unreliable, count new client bookings from your salon software for the same period rather than relying on Google Ads' conversion count alone.

What should a salon check first?

Confirm bookings are recorded accurately, then review search terms for DIY and product-shopping clicks.

  • Last recorded date for each conversion action
  • Top search terms by cost with no recorded booking
  • Whether services you don't offer are excluded
  • Compare ad promises with the services page

Frequently asked questions

Why do I get clicks from people looking for DIY hair tutorials?

DIY searches sometimes overlap with salon service keywords. Negative keywords for 'how to' and 'DIY' usually reduce this.

Should we advertise specific stylists or services?

Promoting a specific service can help filter intent, but track whether those campaigns actually produce booked appointments, not just clicks.

Will Claritad change my salon's ad account?

Managed builds and runs your ads after you approve the plan, then optimizes within agreed limits. Budget increases require your OK. The free diagnostic does not change your ads.
