Google Ads management for restaurants

Restaurant ads often pay for people looking for a recipe to cook at home, browsing menus out of curiosity, or searching for a job in the kitchen rather than a table or an order. An audit checks whether spend reaches people ready to visit or order.

Which searches waste money for restaurants?

Recipe searches, general menu browsing and job searches are the common leaks.

  • Recipe searches: how to make [dish] at home, copycat recipe for [your signature dish].
  • Job and hiring searches: restaurant jobs near me, line cook positions.
  • Searches for a cuisine or dish type you don't serve.
  • Searches for competitor restaurant names or delivery-app-only promotions.
  • Searches from outside a reasonable delivery or dining radius.

Common tracking problems for restaurants

Reservations and online orders are the conversions that matter, and both can be missed if handled by a third-party platform.

If reservations go through a third-party booking platform, check whether a confirmed booking fires a conversion in Google Ads, rather than only a page view being counted.

If online ordering runs through a delivery app or separate ordering system, confirm whether completed orders are tracked back to the ad that drove them, or whether that link is missing entirely.

What does a good cost per lead look like?

Compare cost per reservation or order against average ticket size and how often that customer returns.

A customer who becomes a repeat diner is worth more than a single visit's ticket. Estimate average order value and repeat visit rate, then compare that with cost per booked reservation or order.

If many clicks come from recipe searchers or job seekers, the real cost per usable reservation or order is higher than the raw cost per click suggests.

What should a restaurant check first?

Search terms by cost, reservation and order tracking, and delivery-radius targeting.

  • Exclude recipe and job-seeker searches
  • Confirm reservation confirmations fire conversions
  • Check that online order tracking links back to the ad
  • Review delivery and dining radius targeting

Frequently asked questions

Why do I get clicks from people looking for a recipe?

Recipe searches sometimes overlap with restaurant keywords, especially for signature dishes. Negative keywords usually reduce this.

Should ads promote delivery or dine-in separately?

If both are offered, separating them can make it clearer which is driving reservations versus orders, and what each is really worth.

Will Claritad change my restaurant's ad account?

Managed builds and runs your ads after you approve the plan, then optimizes within agreed limits. Budget increases require your OK. The free diagnostic does not change your ads.
