Google Ads management for plumbers

Plumbing ads compete with every homeowner trying to fix a leak themselves. If your keywords are broad, you can end up paying for how-to searches, parts shoppers and apprentices looking for work — while the real emergency calls go uncounted.

Which searches waste money for plumbing businesses?

DIY, parts and career searches are the biggest leaks for plumbers.

  • How-to searches: how to unclog a drain, how to fix a running toilet.
  • Parts and supply searches: buy a water heater, plumbing supply store.
  • Apprenticeship, licensing and plumber salary searches.
  • Searches from towns outside your service area.
  • Jobs you don't do, such as commercial or gas work if you're residential-only.

Common tracking problems for plumbing businesses

Most plumbing jobs start with a phone call, often from a mobile ad, and many accounts don't track them properly.

Check whether calls from ads and calls from your website are both counted, and whether very short calls are filtered out.

If you use a dispatch or booking tool, booked jobs are a better signal than calls. Even a weekly manual count of jobs that came from Google helps you judge the ads.

What does a good cost per lead look like?

Compare cost per booked job with the average ticket for that job type.

A drain clear and a water heater replacement have very different values. Emergency work often justifies a higher cost per lead than routine maintenance.

Count how many calls become booked jobs. If many calls are price shoppers or out of area, the cost per real job is higher than the cost per call suggests.

What should a plumber check this week?

Search terms by cost, call tracking and your service-area settings.

  • Exclude 'how to', 'DIY' and 'jobs' searches
  • Confirm call conversions have a minimum length
  • Check ad schedule against when you can answer the phone
  • Separate emergency and routine services

Frequently asked questions

Why am I getting calls from outside my area?

Location settings may include people interested in your area rather than only people in it, or your radius may be too wide. An audit checks how each campaign targets location.

Should plumbers run ads 24/7?

Only if someone answers the phone 24/7. Ads that run when nobody can take the call often waste money.

Will Claritad change my plumbing ads?

Managed builds and runs your ads after you approve the plan, then optimizes within agreed limits. Budget increases require your OK. The free diagnostic does not change your ads.
