Google Ads management for gyms

Gym ads often pay for people looking for free workout plans, researching equipment to buy for home, or searching for a job as a trainer rather than a membership. An audit checks whether spend reaches people ready to try a membership.

Which searches waste money for gyms?

Free workout content, home-equipment shopping and job searches are the common leaks.

  • Free content searches: free workout plans, home workout no equipment.
  • Home equipment shopping: buy a treadmill, home gym equipment sale.
  • Job and career searches: personal trainer jobs, gym manager positions.
  • Class types or amenities you don't offer, picked up by broad matching.
  • Searches from outside a reasonable commuting distance to your location.

Common tracking problems for gyms

Trial sign-ups and tour bookings are the real conversions to track, and both can be missed if they happen through a separate membership platform.

If your membership or scheduling software is hosted on another domain, check whether a completed trial sign-up or booked tour fires a conversion tag, rather than only a page view being counted.

A booked tour that's attended is a stronger signal than one that's scheduled but no-showed. If your front desk tracks attendance, compare that against what Google Ads is counting.

What does a good cost per lead look like?

Judge cost per new member against the typical lifetime value of a membership, not the trial price alone.

A member who stays for a year is worth far more than the initial trial fee suggests. Estimate average membership length and value, then compare that with cost per converted new member.

Track how many trial sign-ups or tours actually convert to paid memberships; a low cost per trial means little if conversion to paid membership is weak.

What should a gym check first?

Search terms by cost, tour and trial tracking, and trial-to-member conversion rate.

  • Exclude free-content and home-equipment searches
  • Confirm trial sign-ups fire conversions, not just page views
  • Check location targeting against a reasonable commute radius
  • Track trial-to-paid-member conversion rate separately

Frequently asked questions

Why do I get a lot of clicks but few new members?

Many clicks may come from people looking for free content or home equipment rather than a membership. Reviewing search terms usually reveals this.

Should we advertise a free trial?

It can increase sign-ups, but only track success by how many trials convert to paid memberships, not by trial sign-ups alone.

Will Claritad change our gym's ad account?

Managed builds and runs your ads after you approve the plan, then optimizes within agreed limits. Budget increases require your OK. The free diagnostic does not change your ads.
