Google Ads management for electricians

Electrical ads compete with homeowners trying to fix a problem themselves and with people shopping for parts rather than a contractor. An audit checks whether your budget is going to those searches or to people who actually need a licensed electrician.

Which searches waste money for electrical contractors?

DIY troubleshooting, parts shopping and apprenticeship searches are the typical leaks for electricians.

  • DIY searches: how to wire a light switch, why did my breaker trip.
  • Parts and supply searches: buy circuit breaker, electrical supply store near me.
  • Apprenticeship, licensing exam and electrician salary searches.
  • Commercial or industrial searches if you only serve residential customers, or the reverse.
  • Searches from outside your service area that broad targeting picks up.

Common tracking problems for electrical contractors

Most electrical jobs are booked by phone, and the value of a call varies hugely by job type.

Check whether calls are counted at all, and whether a minimum call length is applied so brief wrong-number calls aren't inflating your results.

A panel upgrade enquiry and a single outlet repair are worth very different amounts. If your booking or dispatch system can tag job type, compare that against what Google Ads is reporting as a conversion.

What does a good cost per lead look like?

Compare cost per booked job against the typical ticket size for that type of work.

Emergency and panel work often justify a higher cost per lead than small repairs. Treating all calls the same can make profitable work look expensive and vice versa.

If many calls come from outside your service area or for work you don't do, the real cost per usable job is higher than the raw cost per call suggests.

What should an electrician check first?

The search terms report, call tracking setup, and service-area targeting.

  • Exclude 'how to' and DIY searches
  • Confirm a minimum call length is applied to call conversions
  • Check service-area radius against where you actually dispatch
  • Separate residential and commercial campaigns if you do both

Frequently asked questions

Why do I get calls from people asking me to walk them through a DIY fix?

Broad keywords can match DIY searches. Reviewing the search terms report and adding negative keywords for 'how to' and similar phrases usually reduces this.

Should I bid differently for emergency electrical searches?

If you can respond quickly, emergency searches can justify higher bids. If you can't, those clicks may be wasted regardless of bid.

Will Claritad touch my ad account?

No. Claritad only reads your Google Ads account and reports what it finds. It doesn't change bids, budgets or keywords.
